About the position

The Early Childhood Special Education (ECSE) Teacher at Dudley Elementary is responsible for teaching preschool students in a special education classroom or other natural environments. This role is pivotal in creating a conducive learning environment that caters to the maturity and interests of the students, ensuring a supportive and engaging atmosphere for learning. The teacher will assume responsibility for the safety, conduct, and health of the students under their supervision, which is essential for fostering a secure educational setting. In this position, the teacher will ensure that the physical upkeep of the classroom and equipment is maintained, which is crucial for providing a safe and effective learning environment. The teacher will guide the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals, establishing clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects, and effectively communicating these objectives to students. A variety of instructional techniques and media will be employed, tailored to the physical limitations of the location and the needs of the individual students or groups involved. The ECSE Teacher will strive to implement the district's philosophy of education and instructional goals through their teaching practices. This includes a commitment to continuous improvement and a high level of expectation for both themselves and their students. The role requires a strong belief in the individual worth of all students and a desire to teach life lessons that extend beyond the textbook and classroom walls. The teacher will also be expected to collaborate with peers, providing constructive feedback and raising expectations for all students and staff.

Responsibilities

  • Create a classroom environment conducive to learning appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students.
  • Assume responsibility for the safety, conduct, and health of the students under supervision.
  • Ensure the physical upkeep of the classroom and equipment is maintained.
  • Guide the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and establish clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects.
  • Employ a variety of instructional techniques and media consistent with the physical limitations of the location and the needs of the students.
  • Implement the district's philosophy of education and instructional goals and objectives.

Requirements

  • Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate with Early Childhood Education Endorsement (ZA) and Emotional Impairment Endorsement (SE) or Early Childhood PK General Education and Special Education Endorsement (ZS).
  • A high level of commitment to working within a culturally, ethnically, and economically diverse environment.
  • Ability to build relationships and inspire students to meet high expectations.
  • Strong adaptability and willingness to learn and apply behavioral and academic RTI models.
  • Proficiency in writing unit plans, pacing guides, and daily lesson plans across multiple subjects.
