The Early Childhood Special Education Teacher II at AdventHealth Shawnee Mission plays a crucial role in the early intervention program for children from birth through six years of age with special needs. This position involves conducting individual and group treatments to assist young children, both with special needs and typically developing peers, in developing their cognitive, social, self-help, communication, motor, and sensory processing skills. The teacher is responsible for conducting annual assessments of children on their caseload and developing tailored classroom goals for each child, ensuring that each child's unique needs are met effectively. In this role, the teacher is expected to practice within the parameters set by the Kansas Department of Education, adhering to all regulatory standards and established policies, protocols, and procedures. The Early Childhood Special Education Teacher demonstrates leadership and management skills, showcasing a commitment to professional accountability and growth. They serve as a role model for the mission, vision, and values of AdventHealth Shawnee Mission, contributing to a community that believes in the wholeness of each person and aims to uplift others in body, mind, and spirit. The position requires collaboration with other team members, including physical, occupational, speech-language, and music therapists, as well as paraprofessionals and Board Certified Behavior Analysts (BCBA). The teacher oversees all aspects of the classroom, including the development of daily lesson plans, equipment needs, and safety protocols. Utilizing Positive Behavior Supports in the classroom is essential, as is collaborating with the director and social worker to address individual child and family needs and access community resources. Additionally, the teacher is responsible for training and educating students, interns, volunteers, and family members of patients, ensuring that quality patient care is provided in a manner that considers the special needs of each child.
