About the position

The Early Childhood Special Education Teacher at KIPP DC is responsible for implementing specialized instruction for students in PreK3 to Kindergarten. This role involves collaborating with general education teachers, the student support team, and families to create and execute individualized educational programs (IEPs) tailored to meet the unique needs of students with disabilities. The teacher will work within a supportive environment that emphasizes professional development, collaboration, and a commitment to educational equity.

Responsibilities

  • Implement specialized instruction for students with disabilities in PreK3 to Kindergarten.
  • Collaborate with general education teachers and the student support team to develop and implement IEPs.
  • Monitor student progress and adjust instruction based on data and IEP goals.
  • Attend and actively participate in IEP Team Meetings for assigned caseload.
  • Create a responsive and inclusive classroom environment that affirms student identities.
  • Perform clerical duties related to student records and IEP documentation.
  • Mentor Capital Teaching Residents, if assigned, by modeling effective teaching practices.
  • Engage in professional development and team meetings to enhance teaching skills.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in education or related field (Required).
  • Commitment to working with students from underserved communities (Required).
  • At least one year of teaching experience in a public school or education degree with student teaching experience (Strongly Preferred).
  • Experience in Special Education and writing 504s and IEPs (Preferred).

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience/strength in content area (Preferred).
