About the position

The Substitute Teacher at Olive Tree Early Learning Academy is responsible for assisting with the daily operational activities in the classroom, ensuring a safe and stimulating environment for children. This role involves understanding children's developmental needs and effectively communicating with both children and adults. The Substitute Teacher will implement educational strategies and assist in maintaining a positive classroom atmosphere aligned with the academy's values and regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Effectively work with infants, toddlers, and/or preschoolers.
  • Collaborate with other staff members daily.
  • Document and verify that each child has been signed in/out for the day.
  • Utilize positive communication methods with parents during pick-up and drop-off.
  • Assist teaching teams with the implementation of the Creative Curriculum & TS-GOLD Assessment into classroom activities and lesson plans.
  • Incorporate Conscious Discipline as an effective classroom management strategy within daily classroom procedures.
  • Maintain classroom interest centers that align with the Creative Curriculum and TS-GOLD Assessment.
  • Clean up classroom before and after meals and activities.
  • Deliver food to the classrooms from the kitchen.
  • Prepare and distribute disinfectant solution every morning and discard it every afternoon.
  • Tend to children’s personal hygiene needs, including changing diapers and assisting with toilet training.
  • Respond quickly to the needs of children who display distress or discomfort.
  • Assist with the integration of children with special needs in a positive and respectful manner.
  • Maintain a positive, calm attitude and model this to parents and staff.
  • Attend professional development and staff meetings as required.
  • Attend annual Open House & parent/teacher conferences.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • 1 year of experience working in a childcare or educational setting.
  • Child Development Associate Certification (CDA) or equivalent.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Dedication to the mission and values of Olive Tree Early Learning Academy.

Nice-to-haves

  • CPR certification.
  • ECE Associate or CDA certification.
  • Infant Mental Health Endorsement.
  • Experience working with low-income families.
  • Comfortable with the use of technology.
