About the position

The Early Head Start Home Visitor role involves providing direct services to families and pregnant mothers in the home environment, focusing on enhancing the development of infants and toddlers. The position requires establishing trust and partnerships with families, supporting parent-child interactions, and delivering a range of Early Head Start services using the Parents as Teachers Curriculum. The Home Visitor will conduct home visits, assess children, document behaviors, and develop individual learning plans while also engaging in community resources and advocating for families' needs.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct a minimum of forty-six home visits per child/family per year, integrating all service areas into the family experience.
  • Plan and participate in Group Socialization Activities in families' neighborhoods.
  • Assess children, document behavior, and evaluate results, working with parents to develop individual learning plans.
  • Enter child and family data into the Program's data management system (COPA) accurately and timely.
  • Encourage and support school readiness, family engagement, and positive interventions.
  • Submit reports and correspondence to Supervisor and Service Area Managers as required.
  • Participate in staff meetings and planning sessions.
  • Maintain regular communication with community resources and establish working relationships to support families.
  • Provide support to health services staff for pregnant moms accessing prenatal and postpartum care.
  • Attend IEP meetings and collaborate with community professionals to meet children's special needs.
  • Adhere to Early Head Start requirements and involve parents in setting and attaining goals for economic stability.
  • Educate families about available community resources and make appropriate referrals.
  • Assist families in crisis with food, housing, clothing, and transportation needs.
  • Familiarize with public assistance systems and child support enforcement procedures.
  • Guide parents in transitioning to community services and provide information for continuing education opportunities.
  • Report changes in family/child demographics to management staff.
  • Work with Health Services staff on child physicals, immunizations, and follow-up appointments.
  • Advocate for the Head Start and Early Head Start program within the community.
  • Collaborate with the ERSEA Coordinator to develop recruitment strategies.
  • Respect and respond to the culture, language, values, and family structures of each family served.
  • Maintain confidentiality of children, families, and staff in accordance with policies and laws.
  • Function as a mandated reporter for child abuse/neglect allegations.
  • Engage in continuous professional development and effective home visiting practices.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required; Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Experience in safety plans and home visiting practices.
  • Knowledge of Early Head Start philosophy and federal Performance Standards.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bilingual in Spanish.
  • Experience working with families and children in a home visiting capacity.
