About the position

The Early Head Start Substitute Teacher at Upbring plays a crucial role in facilitating classroom activities and ensuring a safe and positive learning environment for children. This position is essential for advancing the physical and cognitive growth of children in accordance with state and federal standards, particularly during the absence of the assigned teacher. The Substitute Teacher embodies the core values of Upbring, focusing on breaking the cycle of child abuse and empowering families through education and support.

Responsibilities

  • Provide active supervision of children during indoor and outdoor activities to ensure their safety.
  • Facilitate appropriate learning activities and experiences in the absence of the teacher of record.
  • Maintain confidentiality of all children's records.
  • Follow the scheduled curriculum as directed for the assigned classroom.
  • Ensure all children are properly supervised and take appropriate safety precautions.
  • Adhere to agency and Head Start policies regarding health, safety, and nutrition.
  • Maintain classroom management using developmentally appropriate techniques.
  • Monitor the center environment to ensure safety and compliance with regulations.
  • Complete and maintain accurate documentation as required by the agency and regulatory standards.
  • Communicate any concerns related to child health and safety to the supervisor.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Reliable transportation and state-mandated minimum insurance coverage on your vehicle.
  • Ability to build positive rapport with children, parents, and team members.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate professionally and interact with management.
  • Strong time management and organizational skills with attention to detail.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and within a team with limited supervision.

Nice-to-haves

  • Associates degree in Education, Early Childhood Education, or a closely related field.
  • 1 year of teaching experience with a Head Start or school readiness program.
  • Experience with inclusion of children with disabilities.
  • Knowledge of infant/toddler health and safety licensing requirements.
  • Bilingual (fluent in Spanish), highly preferred.
  • Basic computer skills with Microsoft Office products.
