About the position

This is a full-time, Non-Civil Service position with the Metro Action Commission, specifically for the role of Early Head Start Teacher. The position is under the direct supervision of the Head Start Center Manager and the general supervision of the Head Start Assistant Center Manager. The Early Head Start Teacher plays a crucial role in fostering the development of children in various aspects including social, intellectual, physical, and emotional growth. This position requires a commitment to creating a nurturing and educational environment for young children, ensuring their safety and well-being at all times. The Early Head Start Teacher is responsible for planning, documenting, and implementing daily lesson plans and special activities tailored to the needs of the children. This includes attending staff meetings, training sessions, and other related meetings as requested. The teacher will also be responsible for maintaining current records, performing tasks associated with the education component, and ensuring confidentiality of all student information. A key aspect of the role involves maintaining proper supervision of children both indoors and outdoors, ensuring their safety and engagement in activities. In addition to educational responsibilities, the Early Head Start Teacher will document and implement integration of component events in the classroom, such as handwashing, toileting, and preparing children for health services and community visits. The teacher is also tasked with reporting any concerns regarding children to the assigned Parent, Family, Community, and Engagement Advocate, as well as reporting any suspected child abuse or neglect to the immediate supervisor. The role includes ensuring the daily implementation of family-style food service and supporting volunteers who serve in the education program. Other task-related duties may be assigned as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Help children develop socially, intellectually, physically, and emotionally
  • Plan, document, and implement daily lesson plans and special activities
  • Attend staff meetings, training and other related meetings as requested
  • Responsible for all consultation(s) with parents
  • Maintain current records, perform tasks associated with the education component, and assure confidentiality
  • Maintain proper supervision of children at all times indoors and outdoors
  • Document and implement integration of component events in the classroom
  • Report any children concerns to the assigned Parent, Family, Community, and Engagement Advocate
  • Report suspected child abuse or neglect to the immediate supervisor
  • Insure daily implementation of the family style food service
  • Support and assist volunteers serving in the education program
  • Assume other task-related duties as requested

Requirements

  • Infant Toddler CDA credential or High School Diploma/GED and equivalent coursework/training in early childhood development
  • Valid Driver License
  • Official College Transcripts

Nice-to-haves

  • Previous work experience with young children
  • Certification in Early Childhood Education
