About the position

The Early Intervention Service Coordinator/Developmental Specialist is responsible for providing service coordination and special instruction to families with developmentally delayed infants or toddlers. This role involves managing a caseload, conducting evaluations, preparing Individual Family Service Plans (IFSPs), and linking families to community resources. The position requires effective communication with families and community professionals, as well as timely documentation and billing for services provided.

Responsibilities

  • Provide service coordination and special instruction for families with developmentally delayed infants or toddlers.
  • Manage a caseload and all related activities.
  • Obtain and accept referrals for services.
  • Familiarize families and community professionals with Early Intervention services.
  • Obtain and review medical records for eligibility assessments.
  • Administer and score evaluative instruments to determine eligibility for services.
  • Prepare and conduct Individual Family Service Plans (IFSPs) including coordinating with service providers and developing functional outcomes.
  • Link families to community resources and maintain contacts with community agencies.
  • Advocate for Early Intervention children and families.
  • Monitor the provision of Early Intervention Services and complete all paperwork and billing in a timely manner.
  • Provide developmental instruction to families with infants or toddlers with developmental delays.
  • Communicate effectively with coworkers, families, and community partners.
  • Enter required data into the state web-based system (GIFTS) accurately and timely.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in a relevant field (e.g., allied health, behavioral science, child development) or valid RN certification.
  • Experience working with infants and toddlers (0-3 years) with developmental disabilities.
  • Completion of 3 semester hours of post-secondary coursework in child development.
  • Experience in coordinating services with community professionals for the 0-3 population.
  • Ability to collaborate with Early Intervention and community team members.
  • Valid Driver's License with liability insurance and a serviceable automobile.
  • Alabama Bureau of Investigation/Federal Bureau of Investigation Criminal Background Clearance.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in administering and scoring evaluative instruments for eligibility assessments.
  • Experience preparing and conducting Individual Family Service Plans (IFSPs).
  • Ability to complete required training within specified timeframes.
