About the position

The Earthwork Superintendent at JARBO Employment Group is a senior-level role responsible for overseeing and managing day-to-day job site activities in asphalt construction. This position plays a critical role in ensuring safety compliance, effective communication with the Project Manager, and maintaining project schedules. The Superintendent leads the field personnel, manages subcontractor performance, and fosters a teamwork atmosphere to ensure project success.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee, manage, and document all day-to-day job site activities including OSHA safety compliance.
  • Direct field personnel according to the project plan and organizational supervisory principles.
  • Communicate issues, events, performance, and progress daily to the Project Manager.
  • Report any problems promptly to the Project Manager to facilitate cost-effective solutions.
  • Establish effective working relationships with clients and internal team members.
  • Request advice and assistance from the Leadership Team on materials, sequencing, scheduling, and personnel.
  • Attend all Project Start-Up/Turnover Meetings and project coordination meetings.
  • Identify pre-mobilization activities in conjunction with the Leadership Team and the Project Manager.
  • Develop start-up schedule with Project Manager and send it to the Leadership Team for review.
  • Ensure that as-built working drawings are maintained and communicated to team members and subcontractors as needed.
  • Assist in formulating and implementing construction schedules in the field.
  • Maintain the schedule and ensure that work performed meets or exceeds client expectations.
  • Ensure that all team members participate in a safety pre-construction meeting prior to starting work.
  • Review the project daily to ensure compliance with OSHA and project site-specific safety plans.
  • Ensure that all pertinent benchmarks for the project are established and inserted into the baseline schedule.
  • Manage site pre-construction including pre-construction survey and job site utilization plans.
  • Mobilize the field office and maintain the job site to organizational standards.
  • Organize documentation of the job site for easy access and review.
  • Manage subcontractor performance to quality and ethical standards.
  • Work with PM to identify and resolve personnel issues and construction process revisions.
  • Manage all phases of the construction process including documenting and reporting site activities and progress.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED is required.
  • 10+ years of related experience in Earthwork/Excavation/Utility construction fields.
  • Valid driver's license is required.
  • OSHA 10 certification is required; OSHA 30 preferred.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to take decisive action.
