About the position

The Eating Disorder Technician 1 (ED Tech 1) plays a crucial role in the treatment experience of patients at the Center for Discovery, a division of Discovery Behavioral Health (DBH). This position is dedicated to assisting and supporting patients from the moment they are admitted until their discharge. The ED Tech 1 is responsible for contributing valuable insights and practical information to the treatment planning process, ensuring that each patient's needs are met throughout their stay. The role emphasizes patient safety, effective communication, and the provision of milieu interventions, which are essential for creating a supportive therapeutic environment. In this full-time position, the ED Tech 1 will work primarily from Wednesday to Saturday, from 6 am to 2 pm, at the residential eating disorder program located in Shawnee, Kansas. The technician will support patients in various daily activities, including waking routines, hygiene practices, meals, and free time. They will also facilitate psychoeducational groups, providing patients with the necessary tools and coping skills to navigate their treatment journey. Daily documentation of patient progress is a critical aspect of this role, ensuring that all team members are informed and can collaborate effectively in the treatment process. Responsibilities

  • Supports patient during admission processes, including checking in patient belongings and acclimating them to the program and milieu.
  • Effectively and professionally communicates with families/loved ones, as appropriate.
  • Assists and supports patients in day-to-day activities, including waking routines, morning hygiene, meals, nighttime routine, evening hygiene, bathroom observations, and free time.
  • Provides milieu management throughout the treatment experience and communicates with all team members.
  • Engages in brief 'check ins' with patients, providing support and guidance in using coping skills.
  • Responsible for facilitating psychoeducational groups for the expected length of time identified in the program schedule.
  • Objectively and accurately documents patient progress on a daily basis.

Requirements

  • One year of experience in mental health treatment or a Bachelor's degree, preferred.
  • Must possess a current driver's license and be in good standing.
