About the position

The ECA Career Coach at J. Sargeant Reynolds Community College plays a vital role in supporting students enrolled in the ECA Program. This position is designed to provide comprehensive career and transfer assistance to students, ensuring they have the resources and guidance necessary to succeed in their academic and professional pursuits. The ECA Career Coach will engage with students through individual meetings, group sessions, and classroom presentations, fostering a supportive environment that encourages student growth and development. Each month, the coach will meet with students from one ECA grade level cohort, documenting these interactions in the VCCS Case Management System to maintain accurate records of student progress and engagement. In addition to direct student support, the ECA Career Coach will represent the college at various RPS events, acting as a liaison between the college and the students, faculty, and staff at assigned schools. This role also involves assisting other identified students with the admission and enrollment processes, ensuring a smooth transition from high school to Reynolds Community College. The coach will work closely with the ECA Site Director to plan activities aimed at student retention and successful transitions into university programs. The position requires a commitment to maintaining accurate written and digital records of student interactions, progress, and enrollment documents. The ECA Career Coach will also participate in required meetings and training sessions, contributing to the overall mission of the college to provide quality education and support to its diverse student population.

Responsibilities

  • Provide career and transfer assistance to students in the ECA Program.
  • Complete annual ECA career coaching tasks for each cohort, including individual meetings and group sessions.
  • Meet with each student in one ECA grade level cohort each month from August through May.
  • Serve as a chaperone on ECA field trips, including overnight experiences for rising 11th graders.
  • Represent the college at RPS events based on assigned school.
  • Assist RPS identified students with admission and enrollment procedures.
  • Maintain accurate written and digital records of student interactions and progress.
  • Serve as a liaison between the college and RPS schools.
  • Meet bi-weekly with the ECA Site Director to plan student activities and transitions.
  • Obtain and verify enrollment documents from high school counselors.

Requirements

  • Master's degree from an accredited college or university program is required.
  • Bachelor's degree with five years of post-baccalaureate experience in an educational setting may be substituted.
  • Working knowledge of academic requirements for high school graduation and community college enrollment.
  • Experience working in an academic advisory capacity with a variety of people.
  • Ability to provide post-secondary education academic and career information and mentoring.
  • Demonstrated ability to coordinate student activities and communicate effectively in writing and orally.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience working in both post-secondary and secondary educational settings is preferred.
  • Experience with the Virginia Education Wizard is preferred.
