About the position

The Staff Development Coach and Onboarding Specialist is responsible for the selection, orientation, training, and mentoring of staff in Head Start/Early Head Start Centers within the Mid-Cumberland Head Start/Early Head Start Program. This role ensures compliance with program policies and procedures while providing leadership and support to enhance staff development and child outcomes.

Responsibilities

  • Provides leadership, training, monitoring and assistance necessary for the Head Start/Early Head Start education service component.
  • Participates in interviews for new Early Head Start and Head Start staff.
  • Plans, organizes and conducts the orientation of new staff, ensuring compliance with licensing rules and performance standards.
  • Assesses training needs and provides technical assistance to staff for service delivery and documentation compliance.
  • Coaches and mentors classroom staff, providing constructive feedback and support.
  • Provides follow-up support to staff after training to enhance skill implementation.
  • Participates in ongoing professional development to support effective coaching and mentoring activities.
  • Conducts center observations to promote developmentally appropriate practices and program delivery.
  • Provides guidance on classroom management, discipline, scheduling, and planning.
  • Maintains a cooperative attitude with teachers, staff, volunteers, and parents in planning classroom activities.
  • Administers the Classroom Assessment Scoring System (CLASS) and analyzes data to improve child outcomes.
  • Provides one-to-one mentoring strategies for improving teacher-child interactions.
  • Supports teachers in developing and delivering curricula and educational activities.
  • Submits required reports and data to the Staff Development and Training Coordinator.
  • Ensures classrooms meet safety and health regulations and reports issues to supervisors.
  • Serves as a role model for parents, staff, and volunteers in positive interactions and discipline techniques.
  • Completes Professional Development Plans for all staff.
  • Advocates for Head Start families when necessary.
  • Manages special projects and assignments as delegated by the Systems & Staff Development Administrator.
  • Recruits children for the Head Start and Early Head Start Programs.
  • Attends and participates in various meetings, training, and workshops as assigned.
  • Works to obtain volunteer and in-kind contributions for the Agency.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education, Child and Family Studies, or a related field.
  • Minimum of three years in training or early childhood service delivery, with at least one year of Head Start experience preferred.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with Classroom Assessment Scoring System (CLASS).
  • Knowledge of Head Start Performance Standards and DHS licensing rules.
