About the position

Westat is seeking motivated individuals to work as assessors for the Early Childhood Longitudinal Study, Kindergarten Class of 2023-24 (ECLS-K:2024). This part-time role involves conducting in-person assessments of children and interviews with parents, contributing to a significant study on children's learning and development as they transition into kindergarten and progress through elementary school.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct in-person child assessments at schools or participants' homes.
  • Conduct telephone or in-person parent interviews.
  • Complete web-based home study parent interview training before attending in-person training.
  • Attend mandatory in-person out-of-town training in Birmingham, Alabama.
  • Work during the data collection period from March 17 to June 29, 2025.
  • Travel locally for project work as needed.

Requirements

  • Must be 18 years old or older (or be an emancipated minor).
  • Must be a U.S. citizen.
  • Must have a high school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Must have a current and valid driver's license that is not under suspension.
  • Must have consistent access to a fully insured, reliable vehicle.
  • Must be able to meet physical requirements, including lifting up to 20 pounds and walking several blocks.
  • Must have basic computer skills, including internet access and email usage.
  • Must have attention to detail and organizational skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bachelor's degree in education.
  • Strong reading, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Education-related work experience.
  • Experience collecting data in a standardized manner.
  • Experience working with children and/or in a school setting.
  • Experience conducting assessments in schools.
