About the position

Westat is seeking motivated individuals to serve as team leaders for the Early Childhood Longitudinal Study, Kindergarten Class of 2023-24 (ECLS-K:2024). This role involves leading a team of assessors, overseeing data collection activities in schools, and conducting assessments and interviews with children and parents. The position requires strong organizational skills and the ability to adapt to changing schedules while ensuring the integrity of data collection.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the point of contact for participating schools.
  • Lead a team of assessors in data collection activities.
  • Conduct in-person child assessments at schools or homes.
  • Perform telephone or in-person parent interviews.
  • Ensure compliance with health and safety protocols during data collection.

Requirements

  • Must be 18 years old or older (or be an emancipated minor).
  • Must be a U.S. citizen.
  • Available for web-based training and mandatory in-person training in Birmingham, Alabama.
  • Live in a geographic work area defined by the project.
  • Available to work at least 25-30 hours per week, including evenings and weekends.
  • Willing to travel locally for project work.
  • Able to meet physical requirements, including lifting up to 20 pounds and walking several blocks.
  • Have a current and valid driver's license and access to a reliable vehicle.
  • Basic computer skills, including internet access and email usage.
  • Attention to detail and good organizational skills.
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bilingual in English and Spanish.
  • Bachelor's degree in education.
  • Strong reading, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Prior experience as a field manager, team leader, or interviewer on ECLS studies.
  • Education-related work experience.
  • Experience collecting data in a standardized manner.
  • Experience working with children or in a school setting.
  • Experience conducting assessments in schools.
