About the position
The ECMO Specialist Lead Nurse at TriStar Centennial Medical Center is responsible for supervising ECMO therapy operations, collaborating with various medical teams, and serving as an educator and mentor for staff. This role involves quality improvement initiatives, maintaining ECMO supplies, and ensuring high standards of patient care. The position offers the opportunity to make a significant impact in the nursing field and contribute to patient outcomes.
Responsibilities
- Supervise operations related to ECMO therapy.
- Collaborate with CVICU and MSICU Manager, ECMO Coordinator, ICC Physicians, and Cardiovascular Surgeons.
- Act as an educator and resource/mentor to staff in the ECMO Specialist role.
- Participate in quality improvement and staff development initiatives.
- Maintain ECMO supplies and ensure carts are stocked appropriately.
- Develop orientation pathways and standards for new ECMO Specialists.
- Coordinate preceptorship and competency documentation for new ECMO Specialists.
- Round on ECMO patient population to maintain standards of care and mentor staff.
- Initiate daily huddles with Perfusion to assess and modify patient care plans.
- Provide individualized education for patients, families, and caregivers.
Requirements
- RN licensure by Tennessee Board of Nursing or a compact state.
- BLS and ACLS certification required.
- 3-5 years CVICU experience with expertise in mechanical cardiovascular support devices.
- Ability to function in a preceptor role and familiarity with adult learning principles.
- Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills.
