About the position

The Economic Development Coordinator plays a crucial role in enhancing the business environment of the City of Mason by focusing on business retention, expansion, and attraction. This position involves establishing and maintaining relationships with local businesses, promoting the city to attract new enterprises, and supporting existing businesses. The coordinator is responsible for managing economic development programs, creating marketing materials, and providing high-quality customer service to various stakeholders, including city departments and community members.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with business retention, expansion, attraction, and workforce programs.
  • Build and maintain relationships with the Mason and regional business community.
  • Support economic development programs consistent with the City of Mason's Economic Development Strategic Plan.
  • Proactively market the City of Mason for economic development projects and programs.
  • Plan, organize, administer, and coordinate strategies and projects in support of economic development.
  • Participate in the negotiation and preparation of development agreements and contracts.
  • Analyze and implement policies and procedures for economic development activities.
  • Monitor key performance indicators related to the city's economic performance.
  • Evaluate real property development projects involving public-private partnerships.
  • Prepare and review staff reports for City Council on policy and project matters.
  • Serve as a liaison between staff, City departments, and community groups regarding economic development initiatives.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field; Master's degree preferred.
  • Minimum of one year of administrative experience in economic development or progressive administrative experience.
  • Strong project management experience in a fast-paced environment.
  • High level of computer proficiency, including databases and presentation software.
  • Public speaking and presentation experience.
  • Demonstrable knowledge of technical and business writing.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in sales and marketing strategies.
  • Knowledge of regional business, regulatory, and land-use issues.
  • Ability to develop high-quality proposals and documents.
  • Experience in municipal disciplines such as public utilities and planning.
