About the position

The Manager of Economic Development at Nicor Gas is responsible for implementing the company's Economic Development strategy, which includes engaging with local government officials, community leaders, and stakeholders to foster a positive operating environment. This role involves coordinating communication regarding capital projects, renewing franchise agreements, and supporting community involvement initiatives. The Manager serves as a liaison for economic development, ensuring effective communication and collaboration with various organizations and stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Implement Nicor Gas Economic Development strategy, including internal and external engagement.
  • Leverage relationships with local governmental officials and community leaders.
  • Coordinate communication of capital/infrastructure projects with key stakeholders.
  • Renew expiring/expired franchise agreements with municipalities.
  • Plan and implement community involvement initiatives.
  • Support economic development strategies and initiatives.
  • Manage involvement with local associations and organizations.
  • Ensure business prospects receive accurate information about natural gas service and infrastructure.
  • Develop plans to strategically manage the territory considering key constituents and projects.
  • Provide ongoing communications with Chamber of Commerce and local government officials.
  • Respond to inquiries from economic development organizations and new business prospects.
  • Support Customer Development team with stakeholder engagement on economic initiatives.
  • Coordinate with Community Affairs team for long-term municipal plans.
  • Represent Nicor Gas in economic development committees and events.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Marketing, Communications, Public Administration, Political Science, Engineering or related field.
  • 6+ years of experience interacting with internal and external stakeholders including municipal, business, economic development and community leaders.
  • 6+ years of progressive management experience with a regulated utility or business.
  • Experience & thorough knowledge of natural gas distribution systems.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain effective interpersonal relationships.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience in negotiating and conflict resolution.
  • Public Speaking/presentation Skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's Degree in related field and position-related certifications.
  • Media relations experience.
  • Familiarity with public and non-profit sectors.
