About the position

The Economic Development Research Analyst position at the New York City Comptroller's Office focuses on promoting a thriving and inclusive economy in New York City. The role involves conducting both quantitative and qualitative analyses to support the Bureau of Budget's efforts in evaluating the city's fiscal and economic position. The analyst will produce research reports, contribute to economic newsletters, and monitor economic trends, all aimed at enhancing economic equity and development in the city.

Responsibilities

  • Produce high quality research reports, briefs, and internal memos on inclusive economic development issues.
  • Contribute to the Comptroller's monthly economic newsletter and other publications.
  • Monitor, model, and forecast the City's economic outlook.
  • Scan policy developments and academic literature to enhance economic analysis.
  • Identify and propose new economic development topics for research.
  • Assist with operations and external communication related to economic equity and development agenda.
  • Perform related assignments or special projects as required.

Requirements

  • A baccalaureate degree in economics, public policy/administration, social sciences, or a related field and three or more years of experience in economic analysis, public policy analysis, or financial analysis; or a graduate degree and one or more years of experience as described.
  • Strong writing capability and interest in public policy and economics.

  • Extensive experience with quantitative analysis, including statistical and econometric methods.
  • Ability to synthesize multiple sources of qualitative and quantitative information.
  • Strong writing and verbal communication skills.
  • Interest in economic policy and economic equity, particularly at the city level.

  • Ability to communicate complex ideas to a wide range of audiences.
  • Ability to manage competing deadlines and take ownership of research projects.
  • Proficiency with statistical software (e.g. Stata, Python, R).
