About the position
The ECU Community School Substitute Teacher position is a part-time, temporary role within the College of Education at East Carolina University. The substitute teacher will work in elementary classrooms, facilitating instructional plans and implementing innovative strategies to support student success. This role requires collaboration with the school principal and university faculty to foster a positive learning environment and promote the academic and personal development of students.
Responsibilities
- Facilitate the instructional plans of the classroom teacher and school to ensure that procedures and schedules are implemented to carry out the total community school program.
- Implement the planned innovative strategies and integration of a variety of support services for students.
- Implement behavioral and social-emotional strategies to foster a positive climate for learning.
- Receive visitors within the assigned classroom for the purpose of instruction, assistance, research, and observation.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in elementary education (K-6).
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Evidence of skill in working with at-risk student populations.
Nice-to-haves
- Bachelor's degree with a current or past professional North Carolina teaching license in elementary education (K-6) preferred.
- Teaching experience with diverse student groups.
- Demonstrated experience performing in a self-directed capacity.
- Organized with attention to detail.
- Innovation and outcome-oriented.
- Technologically proficient across multiple platforms.
- Strong interpersonal relationship skills including collaboration with diverse individuals.
- Highly motivated and willing to learn the duties/responsibilities/expectations of the work and operations of the community school.
