About the position

At Warner Bros. Discovery, we are looking for a talented individual to join our editorial team, responsible for developing new ideas and working closely with writers and editorial counterparts at publishing houses. This role requires a creative mind capable of interfacing with various members of the publishing community while working independently to edit projects. The successful candidate will manage a list of approximately 10-15 titles per year with minimal supervision from senior editorial staff. This includes providing line and overarching edits to authors, writing detailed plot and character outlines for ghostwritten and development projects, and crafting cover and promotional copy. Additionally, the role involves maintaining author and publisher schedules and pitching story and property ideas, ranging from one-liners to full plot treatments. The development goal is to sell four original projects per year, necessitating the initiation and maintenance of relationships with writers, editors, publishers, and agents. The position also includes performing additional related duties as assigned, making it a dynamic and engaging opportunity for the right candidate.

Responsibilities

  • Develops, edits, and manages a list of approximately 10-15 titles per year with minimal supervision from Sr. Editorial staff.
  • Provides line and overarching edits to authors.
  • Writes detailed plot and character outlines for ghostwritten and development projects.
  • Writes and edits cover and promotional copy.
  • Maintains author and publisher schedules.
  • Pitches and develops story and property ideas, from one-liners to full plot treatments.

Requirements

  • Minimum 5 years experience in editorial book publishing.
  • Experience in adult fiction - Book Club, Women's, Romance - and/or YA/Children's is a plus.
  • Experience in development preferred.
  • High School diploma or equivalent required; BA/BS degree preferred.
  • Knowledge of the marketplace in publishing, film, and television.
  • Ability to manage complex book schedules with tight deadlines.
  • Ability to participate in managing the development process.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Established relationships with writers and agents.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to work well with a team as well as independently.
  • Flexibility to work extended hours to accommodate crash schedules.
