Eater is seeking an experienced reporter and editor to lead its San Francisco site, a key publication within the Eater network. The Eater SF editor will be responsible for guiding day-to-day coverage while managing a team that includes at least one deputy editor. This role requires a collaborative approach, working closely with the wider Eater network to establish a clear vision for the site that aligns with the dynamic restaurant industry and dining culture in the Bay Area. The editor will focus on driving conversations relevant to local communities, ensuring that coverage reflects the fast-paced and competitive nature of the market. Daily programming will encompass a variety of content, including originally reported news stories, features, and service-oriented maps and guides. The editor will play a crucial role in audience growth and engagement, ensuring that stories cover a broad range of topics, from the bar and hospitality industries to policy changes and social justice issues. Responsibilities will include assigning, editing, and packaging freelance contributions, overseeing key service maps like the Eater 38, and participating in broader editorial initiatives. In partnership with the Cities Manager and the editorial team, the Eater SF editor will develop a comprehensive vision for food and restaurant culture in San Francisco and the greater Bay Area. This includes managing a small team, writing and editing site stories, building an editorial calendar, overseeing social media production, and ensuring all content meets Eater's style and SEO standards. The editor will also be responsible for tracking industry openings, developing sources, and participating in promotional efforts with the national Eater.com team. Public appearances, such as panels and radio shows, may also be part of the role.
