About the position

amNewYork is seeking a part-time, freelance or project-based editor to manage and contribute to coverage of the New York City courts. The role focuses on the judges, court personnel, lawyers, and agencies involved in the legal system, requiring familiarity with New York's legal landscape. The editor will be responsible for assigning, editing, and occasionally reporting on breaking news, as well as writing and editing features related to judges, attorneys, court administration, major trials, and law schools.

Responsibilities

• Oversee and contribute to coverage of the New York City courts.
• Assign and edit articles related to judges, court personnel, and legal agencies.
• Report on breaking news within the legal system.
• Write and edit features on judges, attorneys, and major trials.
• Collaborate with other journalists and legal experts to enhance coverage.

Requirements

• Familiarity with New York's legal system.
• Strong editing and writing skills.
• Ability to manage assignments and deadlines.
