About the position

WHAS11 in Louisville, KY is seeking a qualified Video Editor/Photojournalist to join our award-winning team. The ideal candidate will possess the ability to quickly edit quality stories for multiple newscasts and online platforms. This role requires a creative individual who can produce original content that evokes emotion and tells compelling stories across various media formats. The successful candidate will utilize the latest editing and photography tools to enhance storytelling and engage our audience effectively. In this position, you will be responsible for covering a wide range of stories, including breaking news, general news, sports, weather, and features. You will be expected to produce news stories that are unique and captivating, ensuring that they resonate with our viewers. Participation in editorial meetings is essential, where you will contribute to discussions and suggest innovative story ideas. Additionally, you will operate live units and perform other tasks as required by the Chief Photojournalist or other News Managers and Assignment Editors. This role demands flexibility, as you will need to work various hours, including weekends, holidays, and overtime as necessary. The ability to handle live, breaking news situations calmly and effectively is crucial for success in this position.

Responsibilities

  • Use the latest editing and photography tools to tell great stories.
  • Produce original content on-air and on all digital platforms that evoke emotion and tell compelling stories.
  • Use creative production techniques such as graphics and other forms of media (viewer pictures, webcam interviews, etc.) to enhance stories.
  • Cover breaking, general, sports, weather stories and features.
  • Produce news stories that are unique and captivating.
  • Attend editorial meetings, participate in discussions, and suggest story ideas.
  • Operate live units.
  • Perform other tasks as required by Chief Photojournalist, or other News Managers and Assignment Editors.

Requirements

  • Must have 1-3 years experience as a news photographer.
  • Ability to create/edit material for on-air and web, while meeting deadlines.
  • Must be able to work flexible hours, including weekends, holidays and overtime as needed.
  • Knowledge of Sony cameras is a must, along with wireless microphones and Dejero live units.
  • Having some experience of lighting different interviews along with the ability to produce video with good composition.
  • Ability to calmly handle live, breaking news situations and changing events.
