About the position

The Spruce is seeking a dedicated Commerce Editor to join our dynamic team. In this role, you will be responsible for creating and managing review content across a variety of topics that The Spruce covers, including cleaning, bedding, gardening, and more. Your primary focus will be to collaborate with freelance writers to ensure that each story delivers an exceptional experience to our readers while meeting our production goals on a weekly and monthly basis. You will work closely with other editors, our research and testing team, and our growth team to assign, edit, and update stories with the latest products, research findings, and lab insights. As a Commerce Editor, you will also be tasked with onboarding new freelancers, managing relationships with existing freelancers, and sourcing experts for interviews to enhance the authority of our content. You will be expected to adhere to our editorial guidelines, ensuring that all review stories are accurate, inclusive, comprehensive, and accessible to all readers. Your contributions will include editing, updating, writing, and publishing home-focused stories on a daily basis, as well as assigning 5 to 10 articles per month to freelancers to keep our shopping library current. This position reports to a Senior Editor and requires a proactive approach to managing projects and collaborating with various teams within the organization. You will need to be adaptable to new initiatives and directives, adjusting processes as necessary to thrive in our fast-paced and evolving environment.

Responsibilities

  • Edit, update, write, and publish home-focused stories daily.
  • Assign 5 to 10 articles per month to freelancers to keep The Spruce's shopping library up-to-date.
  • Onboard new freelancers as needed and manage freelancer relationships.
  • Help find experts to tap for quotes to ensure authority across all content.
  • Collaborate with the commerce, editorial, growth, testing and research, and social teams.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of assigning experience at an online publisher
  • 2+ years working in commerce and affiliate industry
  • Experience with SEO best practices and tools and how it relates to content
  • Strong project management skills, including proficiency in management tools like Google Suite and Airtable
  • Strong communication and organizational skills
  • A deep knowledge of the home space, and a passion for shopping and products
  • A self-starter who can pivot as new initiatives and directives are identified and adjusts processes accordingly
  • Open to new challenges and excited to grow within a fast-paced, expanding, and constantly evolving organization.
