About the position

Goodheart-Willcox Publisher, a leader in Career and Technical Education (CTE), is seeking an experienced Editor for the Technical, Trades, and Engineering group. This role is pivotal in managing multiple editorial projects from inception to publication. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in market expertise and a customer-centric approach to editorial work. The editor will collaborate closely with authors, providing guidance and advice to create high-quality, market-leading educational products. In this position, you will work directly with authors and the publishing team to manage revisions and new product developments. You will assist in reviewing, establishing, and executing product development plans that align with the overall goals and editorial investment strategy for each edition. Your responsibilities will include providing direction and feedback to authors and outside developers throughout the manuscript development process, ensuring that the text narrative, illustrations, pedagogy, and supplementary materials meet the required standards. Additionally, you will facilitate and execute each step of the development, editing, and production preparatory stages. This includes editing, researching, verifying the accuracy of content, and writing manuscripts as needed. You will also be responsible for editing and designing illustrations, tables, charts, and photographic images for the products. Finding and selecting qualified reviewers, as well as working with them to ensure the accuracy and appropriateness of the manuscripts, will also be part of your role.

Responsibilities

  • Manage multiple editorial projects from planning through publication.
  • Assist in reviewing and executing product development plans for new or revised titles.
  • Provide direction and feedback to authors and outside developers during manuscript development.
  • Facilitate and execute the development, editing, and production preparatory stages.
  • Edit, research, verify content accuracy, and write manuscripts as needed.
  • Design and create illustrations, tables, charts, and photographic images for products.
  • Select and work with qualified reviewers to ensure manuscript accuracy.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required, preferably in English, Publishing Studies, or Journalism.
  • Minimum of four years of experience in editing or educational content development.
  • Excellent knowledge of English language skills, particularly grammar and usage.
  • Understanding of state or certification-based educational standards.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Windows.
  • Experience in editing K-12 educational products and post-secondary materials.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in instructional design or teaching content in career and technical education or health sciences.
