About the position

Church Pension Group (CPG) is a financial firm located in Midtown Manhattan, established in 1917 to provide pension benefits to eligible clergy of the Episcopal Church. Over the years, CPG has expanded its mission to include a variety of services such as life and disability insurance, health benefits, property & casualty insurance, and publishing. The Editor position is a vital role within this organization, focusing on acquiring and editing proposals and manuscripts for publication in several key categories, including Leadership, Inspiration, Christian Spirituality, Social Justice, Finance, and Retirement. In this role, the Editor will be responsible for generating ideas and reaching out to potential authors, as well as working closely with agents to manage submissions. The Editor will collaborate with authors to develop content and shepherd projects through to production and beyond. This position requires a strong commitment to diversity and inclusion, reflecting the values of the organization and its mission. The essential duties and responsibilities of the Editor include acquiring and editing lead trade titles, preparing necessary paperwork such as descriptions and comparative titles, and writing copy. The Editor will also edit manuscripts while adhering to production and publication schedules, work closely with the marketing team to maximize sales, and present at sales conferences and attend conferences and book fairs as necessary. A knowledge or interest in faith-based publishing is also essential for this role.

Responsibilities

Requirements

  • Experienced in trade non-fiction acquisitions
  • Excellent communication skills—written, oral, editing, and presentation
  • Must have market awareness
  • Must have the ability to travel as needed
  • Bachelor's Degree required
  • 3+ years of trade publishing experience
