We are seeking a versatile and talented individual to create and lead our Editorial team. This role is pivotal in shaping the content, distribution, and engagement strategies across various media platforms. The ideal candidate will possess a passion for media, exceptional organizational skills, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment. As the Editorial leader, you will be responsible for finding and following news leads, writing and self-editing news copy, and managing social media accounts. You will also identify and build community relationships, publish web content, and keep a pulse on current events by attending government meetings and community events. This role requires you to work closely with freelance writers who have ties to the community, take photographs and videos, and solicit contributions from readers and community members. You will collaborate with a designer to develop creative and captivating printed material, creating newsworthy and informational content that appeals to longtime residents, new residents, and visitors alike. Your contributions will be essential in shaping the voice and direction of our news outlet.

Responsibilities

  • Find and follow news leads
  • Write and self-edit news copy
  • Identify and build community relationships
  • Write social media copy and manage social media accounts
  • Publish web content
  • Keep a pulse of current events in coverage area, attending government meetings and community events
  • Identify and work with freelance writers with ties to the community
  • Take photographs and video
  • Solicit contributions from readers and community members (opinions, stories, photographs, videos, tips, etc.)
  • Work with a designer to develop creative, captivating printed material
  • Create newsworthy and informational content that appeals to longtime residents, new residents and visitors
  • Collect and curate submitted content

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in journalism, communications or related field
  • Five-plus years in a newsroom
