About the position

The Editorial, Design, and Production (EDP) Manager at the University of Oklahoma is a pivotal role responsible for overseeing the entire production process of new books and reprints for the University Press. This position ensures that high editorial and design standards are maintained while adhering to production schedules and managing projects within allocated budgets. The EDP Manager will manage a portfolio of approximately 35-40 new titles and over 75 reprints annually, which requires a keen eye for detail and strong organizational skills. In this role, the EDP Manager will supervise an in-house staff of four and coordinate with a pool of external service providers, including printers, designers, typesetters, freelance copyeditors, proofreaders, and indexers. The manager will also oversee the reprinting and restocking of backlist titles in various formats, including conventional, digital, and print-on-demand. Timely delivery of printer-ready files to file conversion providers and e-book vendors is a critical aspect of this position. Collaboration is key, as the EDP Manager will support the Marketing department's asset management for print catalogs, advertising, and electronic marketing collateral. This includes participating in the design, production, proofing, and asset management for two seasonal catalogs and other marketing initiatives. The EDP Manager will be responsible for organizing, managing, and trafficking all book covers and marketing assets to vendors, platforms, and organizational archives. Additionally, the EDP Manager plays a vital role in Press management and planning, contributing to data management and information systems. They ensure the efficient production of print and digital publications, maintaining oversight of the entire production process from editing and design to final manufacturing.

Responsibilities

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field or equivalent experience.
  • 48 months of program development, program management, or related experience.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office.
  • Highly organized and able to handle multiple projects and deadlines.
  • Able to read and interpret policy as well as State and Federal regulations.
  • Able to effectively evaluate projects & programs and produce comprehensive reports.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bachelor's degree in Visual Communication, Fine Arts, Media Arts, Graphic Design, or related field.
  • 5 or more years in print and digital publishing.
  • 2 or more years in a supervisory role.
