About the position

Makino is a world leader in metal-cutting and machining technology, enabling its customers to achieve the highest quality with the fastest time to market. The Aerospace Applications Engineer plays a crucial role in supporting the sales force from a technical application engineering perspective, focusing primarily on aerospace engine component manufacturing. This includes performing test cuts, conducting machine demonstrations, and providing customer startup training. The position is centered around multi-axis (3, 4, and 5 axis) EDM machining techniques, working with some of the most advanced machines in the industry. The engineer will be responsible for supporting a specific customer in the Asheville area, ensuring that they receive the technical assistance needed to optimize their manufacturing processes. In this role, the engineer will perform test cuts and machine demonstrations specifically for aerospace parts, particularly turbine engine components. They will provide applications engineering support by visiting customer facilities, assisting with potential machine and turnkey proposals, and generating NC programs. The engineer will also be involved in setting up machines, building tooling, conducting prove-outs, and completing test cut requests that arise from sales inquiries, ultimately leading to machine orders. Additionally, the engineer will conduct customer startup training and transfer technical knowledge at customer facilities, supporting turnkey execution activities as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Perform test cuts and machine demonstrations for aerospace parts, primarily turbine engine components.
  • Provide applications engineering support to sales by visiting customer facilities and assisting with potential machine and turnkey proposals.
  • Set up machines, generate NC programs, build tooling, conduct prove-outs, and complete test cut requests from sales inquiries leading to machine orders.
  • Perform customer startup training and transfer technical knowledge at customer facilities.
  • Support turnkey execution activities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in a technical field, or 5 years' or more related experience.
  • 1-3 years of experience with aerospace engine component manufacturing.
  • 1-3 years of experience with setup, programming, and operations of multi-axis (3, 4 & 5 axis) EDM or machining centers.
  • Proficient in CAD/CAM generated CNC programming, Siemens NX a plus.
  • G&M code programming experience.
  • Knowledge of macro-based programming, Fanuc Macro B knowledge a plus.
  • EDM condition process development knowledge such as Ton, Toff, voltage, and amperage.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work in a team environment.
  • Ability to interface with potential customers and present a professional image.
  • Technical aptitude, creative problem solving, and logical troubleshooting skills.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office products.
