About the position

We are seeking a dedicated and knowledgeable Career Coach to join our team. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in secondary education, GED, and student engagement, with the ability to educate and analyze individual career paths. As a Career Coach, you will work closely with students to guide them in their academic and professional journeys, helping them to identify their strengths, set achievable goals, and develop actionable plans for success. You will help youth re-engage in high school if they dropped out or help them pursue a GED. In addition, you will assist youth to pursue paid work-experience opportunities, and explore college and careers.

Responsibilities

  • Provide GED support such as scheduling GED practice and official exams, access GED tutoring, provide resources and materials for GED study, and track student progress.
  • Maintain records of education testing, support services, and other program activities.
  • Enter all participant activity in an online computer system via case notes and expenditure entries.
  • Provide post-secondary support such as FAFSA, college applications, application to advanced training, apprenticeships, or technical programs, and college exploration.
  • Provide one-on-one coaching sessions to students, focusing on career exploration and development.
  • Educate students on various career options and the necessary steps to achieve their goals.
  • Analyze student skills, interests, and experiences to provide tailored guidance.
  • Assist students in creating effective resumes and cover letters.
  • Conduct workshops on public speaking, interviewing techniques, and job search strategies.
  • Collaborate with university departments to enhance recruiting efforts and student engagement initiatives.
  • Utilize systems such as Ellucian and PeopleSoft for tracking student progress and maintaining accurate records.
  • Offer academic advising to ensure students are on track with their educational requirements.

Requirements

  • At least 3 years experience working with students in an educational or career development setting is essential.
  • Strong public speaking skills with the ability to engage diverse audiences.
  • Familiarity with outreach and recruiting process of diverse, opportunity youth who want to complete a GED or re-engage in high school.
  • Experience working with low-income young adults, 16 to 24, from diverse cultural, linguistic, social, and socio-economic backgrounds.
  • Familiar with community resources for low-income youth.
  • Knowledge of paid work experience practices is highly desirable.
  • Excellent analytical skills to assess student needs and develop appropriate strategies.
  • A passion for helping students succeed in their academic and career aspirations.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bilingual in English and Spanish is a plus.
