About the position

The Education and Community Engagement Manager at Hello Neighbor will lead the Study Buddy and Mentorship programs, connecting immigrant and refugee families with volunteer supporters. This role focuses on relationship-building and cross-cultural competency to foster a more diverse and inclusive community in Pittsburgh. The manager will oversee program enrollment, support participants, and collaborate with various stakeholders to enhance program effectiveness.

Responsibilities

  • Manage Study Buddy and Mentorship Program strategy and participant experience.
  • Lead program recruitment, selecting quality matches for volunteers and youth/mentee families.
  • Build strong relationships with participants through in-home meetings, phone calls, virtual check-ins, and program events.
  • Visit family homes for intakes, check-in meetings, and distribution of supplies.
  • Respond to participant concerns, offering guidance and counsel as needed.
  • Update training materials and participate in participant training.
  • Ensure collection and organization of program outcomes including demographic information, attendance, and participant surveys.
  • Collaborate with Community Events Coordinator to create meaningful event experiences.
  • Maintain and develop partnerships with relevant program partners such as schools and service agencies.
  • Participate in regular supervision and staff meetings.
  • Adhere to confidentiality guidelines and ensure appropriate handling of sensitive information.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field (social work, sociology, anthropology, international relations, or similar).
  • 2-3 years of related professional experience, or at least 4-5 years of related professional experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively work with refugee and immigrant communities.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Cultural humility and openness to diverse perspectives.
  • Ability to cultivate relationships with clients, staff, and partners.
  • Strong task management skills, including priority setting and meeting deadlines.
  • Digital literacy and ability to learn new software.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bilingual or multilingual in priority languages (Dari, Pashto, Arabic, Swahili, French, Spanish, Russian, Ukrainian, Haitian-Creole, Rohingya).
  • Experience in community building and refugee rights advocacy.
  • Flexibility to work nights and weekends as necessary.
