About the position
The Education and Outreach Specialist position at Pop-Up Labs for STEAM (PULS) involves working part-time to deliver educational programs focused on STEAM and sustainability to K-6 students across O'ahu. The role requires creativity, dedication, and the ability to connect with young learners, aiming to inspire them to engage with environmental issues and develop problem-solving skills. The position is ideal for individuals with a flexible schedule, such as graduate students or recent graduates, and involves transportation to various lab sites.
Responsibilities
- Deliver educational programs in STEAM and sustainability to K-6 students.
- Develop and execute lesson plans and projects related to environmental issues.
- Transport the mobile lab to various locations across O'ahu.
- Engage with students to inspire interest in STEM fields.
- Collaborate with schools and youth organizations to provide enrichment opportunities.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in a STEM discipline, environmental studies, education, or related field.
- Experience in teaching youth, preferably in sciences and sustainability.
- Demonstrated ability to develop and execute lesson plans.
- Knowledge of environmental and social issues facing Hawaiian communities.
- Ability to work varied hours and locations each month.
Nice-to-haves
- Knowledge of specific topics such as corals or trees in STEM fields.
- Experience in a start-up non-profit environment.
