About the position

The Education Manager at the Institute for Public Health Practice, Research and Policy at the University of Iowa is responsible for bridging the gap between academic and service activities within the College of Public Health and public health practitioners. This role involves designing, planning, and conducting educational programs, enhancing student engagement, and supporting workforce development initiatives. The manager will oversee training programs, evaluate their effectiveness, and maintain relationships with various partners to ensure alignment with strategic goals.

Responsibilities

  • Design, plan, promote, and conduct education and service programs.
  • Enhance educational experiences and increase retention for students/participants.
  • Identify and assess workforce development opportunities and resources.
  • Develop and deliver courses for public health professionals.
  • Lead preparation of training and funding-related resource materials.
  • Assist in developing workforce needs assessments with public health agencies.
  • Oversee evaluation of training and education program effectiveness.
  • Provide ongoing technical assistance to public health agencies in Region 7.
  • Implement training programs and develop specific services, including curriculum development.
  • Provide reports and recommendations to align with strategic goals.
  • Propose and develop new initiatives based on stakeholder needs.
  • Advise the Core Director on education and outreach activities.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with partners for educational support services.
  • Represent the workforce development component on various committees and associations.
  • Participate in public outreach activities and present at seminars and conferences.
  • Implement operational activities including project management and supervision of staff.
  • Monitor revenue and expenses for educational activities and assist in budget development.
  • Aid in writing grant applications for funding and maintain program operations reports.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in a field related to public health or equivalent experience.
  • 1-3 years of experience in program management.
  • 1-3 years of experience evaluating program effectiveness.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work across all organizational levels.
  • Demonstrated effectiveness in building teams and collaborations.
  • Ability to travel in Iowa and out-of-state with overnight stays.
  • Valid driver's license meeting University of Iowa Fleet Safety Program standards.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience developing and evaluating workforce development assessment strategies.
  • Experience working with practice and academic partners in other states or HHS Regions.
  • Evidence of success in working with diverse groups including students, government, and faculty.
