About the position

The Education & Outreach Manager at The Arion Press / Grabhorn Institute is responsible for organizing and managing public education initiatives, including tours, workshops, and community outreach programs. This role serves as a key ambassador to the Bay Area arts community, executing educational outreach programs that promote hand bookmaking, letterpress printing, and artist books. The ideal candidate will be detail-oriented, collaborative, and passionate about engaging diverse audiences through innovative educational experiences.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee and manage all aspects of the public tours program, including ticket sales, promotion, and attendance tracking.
  • Manage and oversee school outreach programs inviting local high schools and colleges for targeted activities and tours.
  • Conceive a reinvigorated tour experience for Arion's new Fort Mason facility.
  • Organize and run LEGO printing workshop series at local libraries, schools, and centers.
  • Create curriculum and materials to introduce printing and artist books to new audiences.
  • Produce all promotional materials needed for the education program, such as brochures and flyers.
  • Develop and teach a bookmaking workshop for students at local schools.
  • Organize a system for tracking the program's impact, including the number of students, visitors, and events.
  • Write reports and grants on the short-term impact and long-term vision of the education program.
  • Organize outreach to under-served communities offering free tours and transportation for schools and community partners.
  • Develop and manage specialized outreach projects to cultivate new target audiences.
  • Create and execute action plans to grow Arion's audience by over 10,000 a year.
  • Oversee and maintain displays in the Arion Gallery and public atrium.
  • Create and manage a system to track outreach numbers and impact.
  • Coordinate monthly newsletters, press releases, and social media in tandem with the Sales & Marketing Department.
  • Help build long-term partnerships with local arts organizations, museums, and schools.
  • Staff public events and assist with event planning logistics.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required, Master's preferred, or equivalent experience.
  • 3-5 years of professional experience in teaching and managing educational programs targeting youth and young adults.
  • Proven knowledge of contemporary art, letterpress printing, literature, and book arts.
  • Strong competency in Microsoft applications including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Working knowledge of Constant Contact, Squarespace, and Google Docs.
  • Strong collaboration skills and ability to multi-task.
  • Enthusiasm for working with children and youth.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced setting with shifting priorities.
  • Prior knowledge and experience with letterpress printing and bookmaking is a major plus.
