About the position

The Education Program Lead at SHADOW Lake Nature Preserve is responsible for overseeing and developing educational programs focused on environmental education and conservation. This full-time position involves creating curriculum, leading programs for various age groups, and coordinating with local schools and community organizations. The ideal candidate is passionate about environmental education, well-organized, and capable of managing multiple responsibilities effectively.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, coordinate, and lead all of SHADOW's educational programming, including field trips and community classes.
  • Create curriculum and lesson plans for all age levels.
  • Maintain and organize materials for substitute educators to ensure successful field trips.
  • Coordinate with schools and community organizations for program execution.
  • Organize field trips, manage calendars, and collect data related to these events.
  • Provide training and supervision of AmeriCorps service members under the guidance of the Executive Director.
  • Prepare programmatic updates for the Education Committee and attend meetings.
  • Participate in planning and executing major community engagement events.
  • Promote and market education programs and volunteer opportunities in collaboration with the Executive Director and Digital Communications Coordinator.
  • Recruit, train, and oversee education and restoration volunteers.
  • Identify and seek grant funding for educational programs and projects with the Executive Director.
  • Manage the education program email inbox and respond to inquiries professionally.
  • Ensure proper data collection of program participation and volunteer hours, and track grant activities.
  • Actively search for community engagement and outreach events, providing opportunities for review to the Executive Director.
  • Participate in community and fundraising events, staffing major events and preparing facilities as needed.
  • Contribute to SHADOW's monthly newsletter and provide content for social media as required.
  • Assist with Saturday Work Parties for volunteer groups in maintenance and restoration projects, incorporating stewardship education.
  • Support staff in land management and grounds maintenance activities, including managing noxious weeds.

Requirements

  • Associate's degree or two years of college-level coursework in environmental studies/science.
  • One year of classroom and/or outdoor education experience.
  • Basic knowledge of Western Washington's native plants and restoration techniques.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proven ability to work in a fast-paced environment with strong time management skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills and project management capabilities.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and familiarity with platforms like WordPress, Canva, and Constant Contact.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bachelor's degree in environmental studies or a related field preferred.
