About the position

The Georgia Department of Education (GaDOE) is seeking an experienced Education Program Specialist to join the Federal Programs team. This position is crucial for providing general supervision to local districts, ensuring that their policies, procedures, and practices align with federal regulations and state rules. The Education Program Specialist will play a key role in leading and coordinating the development and administration of statewide special education programs and mandates. This includes supporting targeted schools and districts in collaboration with School and District Effectiveness, as well as implementing High-Leverage Practices in Special Education, addressing Disproportionality, and conducting Cross Functional Monitoring. In this role, the Education Program Specialist will assist in the continuous improvement monitoring process specifically related to students with disabilities. Responsibilities include overseeing district reviews of policies, procedures, and practices, developing corrective action plans, and ensuring timely correction of noncompliance issues. The specialist will also be responsible for the appropriate development of plans and the use of funds as mandated by state or federal guidelines, as well as ensuring timely and accurate data submissions. Additionally, the position requires the preparation of guidelines, memoranda, reports, and presentation materials, along with conducting training and staff development activities for local districts. The ability to complete required job duties with limited supervision is essential for success in this position.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the continuous improvement monitoring process for students with disabilities.
  • Provide oversight for district reviews of policies, procedures, and practices.
  • Develop corrective action plans for noncompliance issues.
  • Ensure timely correction of noncompliance in accordance with state and federal mandates.
  • Oversee the appropriate development of plans and use of funds as required by regulations.
  • Ensure timely and accurate data submissions from local districts.
  • Prepare guidelines, memoranda, reports, and presentation materials.
  • Conduct training and staff development activities for local districts.
  • Complete required job duties with limited supervision.

Requirements

  • High school diploma/GED and seven (7) years of program management experience; or two (2) years of experience at the lower level Education Program Specialist 3 (EDP032) or equivalent position.
  • Must submit a copy of GaPSC certificate/certification or GaPSC eligibility certificate/certification with application materials.

Nice-to-haves

  • A doctorate degree, education specialist in school psychology, special education, or educational leadership.
  • Experience in K-12 education, school psychology, or special education with increasing responsibility.
  • Experience implementing district and/or school improvement processes.
  • Experience providing technical assistance at the school and district level.
  • Experience delivering professional learning to broad audiences.
  • Strong knowledge and skill in RTI, PBIS, SST, evidence-based instruction and interventions.
  • Experience supporting districts with discipline practices.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
