About the position

The Education Support Specialist II (Career Coach) at Fauquier High School is a part-time position dedicated to providing comprehensive career development support to students. This role serves as a vital resource for the middle majority of students, facilitating dual enrollment registrations and coordinating with Laurel Ridge Dual Enrollment Specialists to assist students in earning degrees or credentials by graduation. The career coach will conduct career assessments, assist in writing academic career plans, and provide guidance to counselors and staff in career counseling. Additionally, the coach will support students in their post-graduation plans, which include college placement testing, financial aid applications, and trade and technical school applications, as well as preparing students for direct entry into the workforce. The position requires close collaboration with the Work-Based Learning (WBL) coach and other school staff to facilitate student referrals for WBL experiences, emphasizing the development of employability and soft skills. The career coach must remain informed about the various programs offered at Laurel Ridge, including transfer and non-transfer degrees, certificates, and career studies certificates. Continuous professional development is essential, as the coach will attend training sessions to stay updated on program changes and will be responsible for completing all required reports. This position is located at Fauquier High School in Warrenton, Virginia, and may involve additional duties as assigned, including assisting the agency or state government during emergency declarations.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitate dual enrollment registrations for students.
  • Coordinate with Laurel Ridge Dual Enrollment Specialists to assist students in earning degrees or credentials.
  • Conduct career assessments and assist students in writing academic career plans.
  • Serve as a resource for counselors and staff in career counseling.
  • Assist students with post-graduation plans, including college placement testing and financial aid applications.
  • Support students planning to enter the workforce directly.
  • Collaborate with the WBL coach and school staff to support student referrals for WBL experiences.
  • Stay informed about programs at Laurel Ridge, including transfer and non-transfer degrees and certificates.
  • Attend training to remain current on program changes at Laurel Ridge.
  • Complete all required reports.

Requirements

  • Experience utilizing oral and written communication skills in presentations and reports.
  • Proficiency in computer technology, including Word, Excel, and other commonly used platforms.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience administering and interpreting assessments.
  • Experience conducting workshops for small groups.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with computer software and ability to learn new software quickly.
  • Demonstrated ability to work well with others.

  • Previous secondary school experience, preferably in a high school setting, or related professional experiences.

Benefits

  • Compensation commensurate with education and experience, starting at $20.00-30.00 per hour.
