About the position

The Educational Assistant - Educational Assistant 2 position is designed to support student learning by assisting licensed staff in the implementation of curriculum and programs. The role involves working 6.5 hours a day, Monday through Friday, under a regular/probationary contract status. The position is non-exempt and classified, with a starting rate of $19.46 per hour, including benefits. The Corvallis School District participates in the Oregon Public Employee Retirement System (PERS and OPSRP), contributing 6% of an employee's salary to their Individual Account Program (IAP) upon eligibility. The position is open until filled, with the earliest possible review date set for January 6th, 2025. Bilingual Spanish is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Exercise independent judgment in managing classroom/program operations consistent with administrative direction and district policies.
  • Assist in the instruction of students in small group and one-on-one settings, adjusting lesson plans as necessary.
  • Provide supplemental practice in various learning experiences using strategies designed by licensed staff.
  • Prepare instructional materials related to the area of assignment, including copying materials and developing visual aids.
  • Facilitate the development of positive interpersonal relationships among students and promote their safety.
  • Train and assist students in behavior management and social skills, acting as a role model.
  • Maintain high standards and expectations for students to encourage independent learning.
  • Supervise various student activities throughout the building to support the district's discipline and instructional program.
  • Assist licensed staff in training volunteers and professionals to work with students.
  • Perform minor medical and health procedures as requested.

Requirements

  • An associate's degree or higher, two years post-secondary study (72 quarter or 48 semester credits), or a passing score on a district-approved assessment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to formulate ideas for program improvement.
  • Ability to collect, record, store, retrieve, and organize information efficiently.
  • Ability to understand and implement the school/program's student discipline policy.
  • Ability to work with challenging behaviors and creatively problem-solve.
  • Ability to interact effectively and collaboratively with individuals and groups of all ages.
  • Proficient in the use of classroom/program equipment and technology.
  • Ability to obtain specialized training as required.
  • Standard First Aid certification, or the ability to obtain certification within two months of hire.
