About the position

The Educational Health Assistant at Meadow Point Elementary School plays a crucial role in supporting the health and educational needs of students. This position operates under the guidance of licensed specialized education staff and a registered school nurse, providing essential medical care, administering first aid, and assisting with the implementation of educational programs tailored to individual student needs. The role requires a blend of healthcare and educational support, ensuring that students receive the necessary interventions to thrive in a school environment.

Responsibilities

  • Provide routine medical and emergency care for students and staff, including triage and first aid for ill and injured students.
  • Maintain consistent charting of health records and collect data to support health-related needs and interventions during school.
  • Assist students with classroom activities, adapting the curriculum to individual student needs under the direction of an SSP.
  • Monitor students and reinforce appropriate behavior, assisting in verbal de-escalation and non-violent crisis interventions.
  • Share information with school stakeholders to meet the needs of individual students and families, communicating with parents/guardians as necessary.
  • Assist with multiple student needs, including toileting and feeding assistance, while maintaining a clean work environment.
  • Perform other duties as assigned or requested.

Requirements

  • High School Equivalency (HSE) diploma
  • Two (2) years of healthcare, medical, fitness, or related work experience
  • Licensed/Certified Nurse's Assistant (CNA), Medical Assistant, Emergency Medical Technician or Paramedic Technician
  • Colorado driver's license
  • Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR)/First Aid certification required within the first 30 days of employment
  • Qualified medication administration personnel (QMAP)/medication administration training required within the first 30 days of employment
  • Non-violent crisis prevention and intervention (CPI) training required within the first 60 days of employment
  • Training on any necessary delegated nursing procedures required within the first 30 days of employment
  • Intermediate math skills
  • Intermediate knowledge of typical office equipment such as telephones, copiers, computers, email, etc.
  • Intermediate knowledge of community resources
  • Intermediate knowledge of the Microsoft Office Suite
  • Advanced knowledge of health clinic equipment that provide objective observations
  • Advanced verbal and written communication skills
  • Advanced interpersonal relations skills, including professional telephone and email communication
  • Advanced organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to diffuse and manage stressful and/or volatile situations
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality in all aspects of the job in accordance with FERPA and HIPAA
  • Ability and willingness to have medical contact with and provide physical care for students
  • Ability and willingness to provide basic custodial services in health clinic
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with others
  • Ability to work one-on-one and in small groups with students
