About the position

The Educational Talent Search Program Advisor at the University of California is responsible for developing academic outreach programs aimed at increasing the number of college-eligible and college-bound students from disadvantaged backgrounds. This role involves advising students and parents on higher education opportunities, conducting workshops, and coordinating various academic enrichment activities. The advisor will assess the needs of the student population, implement program activities, and represent UC Davis at relevant events, all while working under the supervision of the TRIO Director.

Responsibilities

  • Develop academic outreach programs for disadvantaged students.
  • Advise high school students and parents on higher education opportunities.
  • Conduct workshops on post-secondary admissions and financial aid.
  • Assist students with the college application process.
  • Represent UC Davis at workshops and conferences.
  • Develop written materials for program publications.
  • Coordinate summer programs and academic enrichment activities.
  • Serve on committees to set policy and strategy for student programs.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a related area or equivalent experience/training.
  • Advising experience with low-income/first-generation high school students.
  • Experience with program development and management.
  • Ability to design, implement, and evaluate initiatives for diverse communities.
  • Knowledge of K-12 public schools and California higher education systems.
  • Strong communication skills to engage with diverse groups.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with outreach to increase educational achievement among diverse populations.
  • Ability to assess budgetary needs and manage allocations.
  • Experience analyzing federal/state/university policies.
  • Ability to speak a foreign language, preferably Spanish.
  • Computer skills in word processing, spreadsheets, and database management.
