About the position

The EH&S Specialist at Denali Therapeutics is responsible for supporting the implementation of Environmental Health and Safety (EH&S) programs, ensuring regulatory compliance, and promoting a safe working environment. This role involves assisting with the development of policies, conducting safety inspections, providing employee training, and managing hazardous waste. The specialist will also be involved in incident reporting and data collection to enhance safety practices within the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with the development and implementation of EH&S policies and procedures, including chemical safety, ergonomics, hazardous waste management, and emergency preparedness.
  • Help ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, and other relevant regulations by maintaining records and assisting in audits and inspections.
  • Assist with the documentation and reporting of workplace incidents, near misses, and corrective actions, and contribute to identifying root causes.
  • Perform regular inspections of laboratory and office spaces to identify potential hazards and ensure compliance with safety protocols.
  • Support the delivery of safety training sessions for new hires and current employees on topics such as laboratory safety and emergency procedures.
  • Assist with the maintenance of emergency response plans and equipment, and participate in emergency drills.
  • Help track and analyze EH&S metrics, including incidents and safety observations, and assist with preparing reports for internal teams and regulatory bodies.
  • Assist in coordinating the proper disposal of hazardous materials according to company policy and legal regulations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Occupational Health and Safety, Biology, Chemistry, or a related field.
  • 2+ years of experience in an EH&S role.
  • Basic understanding of EH&S regulations and best practices.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience through internships, part-time work, or academic projects related to environmental health and safety or laboratory safety.
  • Familiarity with hazardous materials management or safety protocols in a laboratory environment.
  • Certification in First Aid, CPR, or OSHA 10-hour/30-hour training is advantageous but not required.
  • Experience in digital content creation and management is a plus.
