About the position

The EHS Health Specialist at AWARE, Inc. is responsible for ensuring compliance with childcare licensing and Head Start Performance Standards while providing high-quality health services to infants, toddlers, and their families. This role focuses on monitoring health needs, implementing developmental screenings, and facilitating health education, all aimed at fostering personal growth and community engagement among clients.

Responsibilities

  • Ensures compliance with rules, regulations, and guidelines from childcare licensing and Head Start Performance Standards.
  • Develops and implements ongoing monitoring processes for developmental screenings, immunizations, and wellness checks.
  • Determines individual health needs of children and families, making referrals to community health providers as needed.
  • Assists families in utilizing health and health education services.
  • Provides resources to enhance parent/child relationships and knowledge of hygiene, nutrition, child development, guidance, and safety.
  • Attends health, dental, and disability appointments with families as indicated.
  • Identifies children with special health needs and develops individualized health plans as necessary.
  • Assesses nutrition, growth, and development of enrolled infants and toddlers in collaboration with families and healthcare providers.
  • Coordinates on-site and community child developmental screening opportunities.
  • Provides health education opportunities for children and staff, including tooth brushing, hand washing, and nutrition activities.
  • Coordinates with family and Part C provider for child transition services.
  • Ensures timely screening, referral, evaluation, and access to Part C services in compliance with State and Federal law.
  • Facilitates and monitors referrals to Part C and LEA professionals/agencies.
  • Maintains community relationships with local health departments and other agencies to ensure seamless service delivery.
  • Monitors, tracks, and analyzes health and disabilities data; maintains accurate data input in the ChildPlus database.
  • Maintains and orders first aid and health supplies for childcare sites.

Requirements

  • BS/BA Degree in Human Services, Health Education, or a related field.
  • Two years of direct related employment experience.
  • Comprehensive working knowledge of Montana childcare licensing requirements, Head Start Performance Standards, and federal standards preferred.
  • Head Start/Early Head Start experience preferred.
