About the position

The EHS Manager at Panasonic Energy of North America (PENA) is responsible for implementing Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) programs and initiatives to support battery production operations. This role involves driving safety culture on the production floor, managing teams, and ensuring compliance with EHS regulations. The EHS Manager will work closely with various stakeholders to mitigate risks and promote a culture of quality and continuous improvement within the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Promote a culture of quality, safety, compliance, and continuous improvement throughout the PENA organization.
  • Coach and influence EHS team members and production safety teams to drive a High-Performance Safety Culture.
  • Assess and evaluate processes and day-to-day activities on the production floor, guiding production safety teams in safe practices.
  • Identify, evaluate, and mitigate safety risks within the production area.
  • Act as a technical consultant and subject matter expert for EHS programs such as LOTO, Machine Guarding, and Fall Protection.
  • Review, participate, and coach teams in effective investigations, ensuring root cause analysis and corrective actions are implemented.
  • Participate in safety committee meetings and address or mitigate issues as needed.
  • Conduct and review risk assessments and evaluate equipment design for safety improvements.
  • Collect and analyze data using commercial or in-house platforms to verify compliance and continuous improvement efforts.
  • Conduct industrial hygiene surveys and environmental monitoring to control workplace hazards.
  • Assist EHS with revisions to programs, policies, and training, and implement 6S in production areas.
  • Complete projects to improve processes in existing production lines and install new production capacity.
  • Prepare and submit timely and accurate reports and permitting requirements as needed.
  • Interact and support at all organizational levels, both internal and external to the company.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Engineering, Systems Safety, Biology, Chemistry, or a related field from an accredited institution.
  • Minimum of 10+ years in a senior, supervisory, or managerial role related to EHS.
  • Experience with EHS regulations and guidelines, including OSHA, NFPA, ANSI, ISO, and EPA.
  • Minimum of 3+ years of progressive manufacturing/operations experience with direct people management in a high-volume environment.
  • Knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety management systems such as ISO 45001.
  • Experience mentoring, coaching, and collaborating with production safety team members.
  • Experience with Behavior Based Safety programs and implementation.
  • Experience conducting risk assessments, incident investigations, and root cause analysis.

Nice-to-haves

  • Advanced degree in EHS or a technical field.
  • Preferred certifications such as ASP, CSP, or CIH.
  • Strong commitment to safety and continuous improvement mindset.
  • Ability to positively resolve issues arising from different cultures.
  • Experience with Lean Six Sigma and 6S principles.
