About the position

The EHS&S Specialist will develop, implement, and maintain strategies, programs, and initiatives that ensure a safe, environmentally responsible, and sustainable workplace at the Okmulgee Plant. This role involves collaboration with various departments and stakeholders to promote compliance with regulations, reduce risks, and enhance the overall well-being of employees, the environment, and the community.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor and interpret local, regional, and national environmental, health, and safety regulations.
  • Maintain and monitor various internal systems and procedures utilized for safety/health regulatory compliance.
  • Conduct internal safety audits and inspections with associated recordkeeping.
  • Investigate incidents and near hits to determine root causes and implement corrective actions.
  • Provide training and educational resources to employees on best practices, policies, and procedures.
  • Participate in monthly EHS&S departmental progress meetings and monthly technical review meetings.
  • Develop strong working relationships with third-party contractors and consultants related to EHS&S activities.
  • Assist with upkeep and maintenance of EHS&S files and databases.
  • Collect and analyze data related to EHS&S performance incidents and sustainability key safety metrics.
  • Actively participate on or lead an internal employee-based safety team.
  • Update EHS&S regulatory calendar with pertinent audit trail information.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, including regulatory agencies, to ensure alignment with best practices and standards.
  • Participate in PSM review meetings as EHS&S representative.
  • Assist EHS&S Manager with various EHS&S continuous improvement initiatives or corrections as needed.
  • Oversee and process site chemical approval requests.
  • Schedule, profile, and track waste disposal activities for industrial waste and universal wastes.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, Industrial Safety, or related field.
  • 3-5 years' experience in an EHS role in an industrial setting.
  • Familiarity with EPA, OSHA, and DOT regulations as applicable to industrial facilities.
  • Experience with incident investigations and root cause analysis.
  • Experience with maintaining EHS management systems and internal auditing/corrective action development.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite; Word, Excel, PowerPoint.

Nice-to-haves

  • EHS related certifications; CHMM, ASP, CSP, CIH, etc. are a plus.
  • Previous experience with OSHA process safety management is a plus.
  • Familiarity with discharge and/or environmental permitting; Title V, NPDES, storm water, TRI is a plus.
