About the position

The Electrical, Instrumentation, & Controls Technician at TC Energy is responsible for troubleshooting, maintaining, and operating natural gas measurement equipment and compressor station control systems. This role is crucial for ensuring the reliability and efficiency of measurement and regulation facilities in the Lake Superior Area, particularly in Michigan. The technician will work independently, demonstrating strong problem-solving and communication skills while contributing to the company's mission of transitioning to cleaner energy.

Responsibilities

  • Install, commission, test, repair, and maintain compressor station, meter station, communication systems, and other facilities related to the pipeline system.
  • Oversee, direct, and perform tasks related to the installation, start up, and repair of measurement and regulation equipment.
  • Perform routine and major maintenance on natural gas driven compressor units and associated auxiliary equipment.
  • Troubleshoot, operate, maintain, calibrate, and repair various types of electronic, electric, pneumatic, and hydraulic equipment.
  • Maintain power, process controls, programmable logic controllers (PLC), electric generation equipment, microwave multiplex equipment, and orifice meters.
  • Assemble, install, test, and maintain instrumentation, electrical or electronic wiring, equipment, apparatuses, and fixtures.
  • Diagnose malfunctioning systems, equipment, and components using test equipment and hand tools.
  • Inspect electrical systems, equipment, and components to identify hazards, defects, and the need for adjustments or repair.
  • Test electrical systems and continuity of circuits in electrical wiring, equipment, and fixtures using testing devices.
  • Receive and maintain equipment documentation and serve as the facility technical resource.
  • Perform diagnostic tests, accuracy tests, calibrations, and replacements of various measurement and regulation equipment.
  • Compile, prepare, and maintain written records related to DOT auditable inspections and gas quality analysis.
  • Work closely with field personnel to schedule and properly route gas during maintenance or emergency repairs.
  • Locate pipelines per One Call and perform valve maintenance.
  • Complete work orders, enter data into job plans, create new work orders, etc. in SAP.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Previous experience in a related industry.
  • Thorough understanding of stop work authority (SWA) and safe work practices.
  • Knowledge and understanding of lock out/tag out (LOTO) procedures.
  • Basic knowledge of engine mechanics.
  • Experience in the use of Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and related software.

Nice-to-haves

  • Associates degree to include courses in engine maintenance or electricity/electronics.
  • Experience with Allen Bradley and/or Bristol controls.
  • Experience with various types of gas measurement testing equipment.
  • Thorough understanding of the test equipment used to maintain control systems.
  • Experience with PLC's, pneumatic and electronic valves, transmitters, switches and regulators.
  • Ability to interpret technical reference documents.
