About the position

IXL Learning, a leader in personalized learning products, is seeking creative and motivated writers to join our content development team as ELA Content Writers for grades 6-12. This remote, freelance position is designed for individuals who are passionate about education and possess exceptional writing skills. In this role, you will collaborate closely with editors and curriculum designers to develop engaging language arts content that resonates with middle and high school students. Your primary focus will be on creating compelling reading comprehension and writer's craft activities that align with educational standards and meet the needs of our diverse audience. As an ELA Content Writer, you will be responsible for researching various informational topics that are of interest to school-aged learners. You will write sentences, paragraphs, and longer passages that will be utilized in online educational activities. Crafting questions, answers, and explanations based on provided guidelines and samples will be a key part of your responsibilities. It is essential to adhere to conventions outlined in The Chicago Manual of Style as well as our in-house style guide. Additionally, you will be expected to accept and implement feedback from editors to refine your work and ensure it meets our high standards. This position is a 1099 consulting role for a duration of three months, with the possibility of extension based on performance and project needs. We are particularly interested in candidates who can demonstrate their ability to write effectively for a middle or high school audience, showcasing their creativity and understanding of educational content.

Requirements

  • BA/BS degree, preferably in English, creative writing, or a related field
  • Exceptional writing skills, including a finely tuned sense of English grammar and usage
  • Strong critical-thinking, research, and problem-solving skills
  • The ability to be efficient and organized while working on multiple projects
  • Previous professional writing experience (educational or YA content preferred)
  • Previous experience working in education preferred
