About the position

IXL Learning, a leader in personalized learning products, is seeking creative and motivated writers to join our content development team as ELA Content Writers with a focus on assessments. This role is designed for individuals who are passionate about language arts and have a knack for crafting engaging content for students from pre-kindergarten through 12th grade. As a freelance writer, you will collaborate closely with editors and curriculum designers to produce eloquent and engaging language arts passages that will be utilized in various assessments and online activities. This position is remote and is structured as a 1099 consulting role for a duration of three months, with the possibility of extension based on performance and project needs. In this role, you will be responsible for researching topics that resonate with a school-aged audience, sourcing relevant passages from texts, and writing sentences, paragraphs, and longer passages tailored for online assessments. You will also craft questions, answers, and explanations that align with established guidelines and samples. Adherence to conventions outlined in The Chicago Manual of Style and an in-house style guide is essential, as is the ability to accept and implement feedback effectively. This position requires a high level of creativity, attention to detail, and a commitment to producing high-quality educational content that meets the needs of learners and educators alike.

Responsibilities

Requirements

  • BA/BS degree, preferably in English, creative writing, or a related field
  • Experience writing ELA K-12 content for large-scale summative, interim, and formative assessments
  • Exceptional writing skills, including a finely tuned sense of English grammar and usage
  • Strong critical-thinking, research, and problem-solving skills
  • The ability to be efficient and organized while working on multiple projects
  • Previous professional writing experience (educational or YA content preferred)
