About the position

The English Language Development (ELD) Instructional Assistant at Wy'east Middle School plays a crucial role in supporting the instruction and supervision of English Language Learners. This full-time position involves working under the guidance of licensed staff to implement lesson plans, monitor student activities, and maintain a positive learning environment. The assistant will also perform clerical tasks related to instructional assignments and assist in evaluating students' progress.

Responsibilities

  • Assist licensed staff members in instructing students individually and in small groups by implementing lesson plans and instructional activities.
  • Monitor individual students and classroom activities to provide a safe and positive learning environment.
  • Maintain classroom equipment, student files, and records to ensure availability of necessary items.
  • Perform limited clerical functions related to instructional assignments, such as preparing materials and communicating with parents.
  • Administer tests to assist licensed staff in evaluating students' progress.
  • Confer with licensed staff members, parents, and community agency personnel to assist in evaluating students' progress.
  • Participate in various meetings to share information and improve skills and knowledge.
  • Assist other personnel as required to support them in completing their work activities.

Requirements

  • Prior job-related experience with school-age children, preferably with English Language Learners.
  • Possess the equivalent of 72 quarter credits of college coursework (equivalent to an Associate's Degree) or have passed the CBEST or PRAXIS Paraprofessional assessment.
  • Skills to perform instructional activities and communicate effectively with parents, students, staff, and the community.
  • Knowledge of principles of child development and instructional processes.
  • Ability to work as part of an instructional team and be flexible in working with a variety of students and tasks.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bilingual English/Spanish skills preferred.
