About the position

The Elder Abuse Victim Assistance and Outreach Specialist at 1736 Family Crisis Center plays a crucial role in providing crisis intervention and case management services to victims of elder abuse. This position involves connecting with victims to offer support and resources, conducting outreach within the community, and developing a network of referrals to assist those in need. The specialist will engage in both phone and in-person crisis intervention services, ensuring that clients have access to necessary resources and advocacy. The role also includes educating the community about elder and dependent adult abuse, creating awareness programs for mandated reporters, and expanding the community's understanding of the issues faced by these vulnerable populations. In addition to direct client services, the specialist will be responsible for case management, community education, and the implementation of elder and dependent adult programs. This includes conducting presentations, obtaining and maintaining community partnerships, and coordinating with multidisciplinary teams to ensure comprehensive support for clients. The specialist will also be tasked with maintaining accurate documentation of client services, attending monthly case management meetings, and ensuring that the programs meet the needs of elder and dependent adults while adhering to organizational objectives. The position requires a proactive approach to outreach and education, as well as the ability to work independently in a self-directed environment. The specialist will oversee daily program activities and contribute to the development of protocols for responding to elder and dependent abuse cases. This role is vital in ensuring that victims receive the necessary support and resources to navigate their situations effectively.

Responsibilities

  • Provide client counseling, case management, advocacy, and other client assistance as needed.
  • Provide crisis intervention services via phone and in-person.
  • Perform client intake and exit interviews, scheduling and coordinating client entry and exit from the program.
  • Provide direct services such as case management, referrals for legal assistance, shelter, medical care, and other relevant resources.
  • Direct advocacy and accompaniment to ensure access to resources as needed.
  • Develop and maintain awareness of services and programs for elderly and dependent adults across various regions.
  • Assist in ensuring programs and services effectively meet the needs of elder and dependent adults and adhere to organizational objectives.
  • Develop and coordinate a multidisciplinary team to respond to elder and dependent adult abuse cases, including scheduling meetings and serving as the point of contact.
  • Assist with the development of protocols for responding to elder and dependent abuse victims/survivors.
  • Provide consultation and outreach materials for those that may encounter elder and dependent abuse victims/survivors.
  • Conduct community events and participate in coalitions and task forces aimed at victim and community services.
  • Oversee everyday program activities and work independently in a self-directed environment.
  • Perform assigned record keeping and documentation relevant to agency work and funder requirements.
  • Ensure adherence to agency policies/procedures and professional ethics.
  • Provide clinical staff training as directed.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in social work, psychology, counseling, gerontology, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly both verbally and in writing.
  • Knowledge and/or skills needed to access and/or develop community resources.
  • Knowledge and/or experience relevant to working with and effectively supporting older adults who have experienced abuse.
  • Knowledgeable of APS (adult protective services), victim prevention, substance abuse issues, therapeutic interventions, and treatment planning relevant to victim services communities.
  • Working knowledge of community resources related to homelessness, elder and dependent adult abuse, domestic violence, sexual assault, and human trafficking.
  • Willingness to travel to facilitate outreach and presentations, requiring public speaking skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and oral and written communication skills.
  • Non-profit experience preferred.
  • Excellent computer and data entry skills; adept at using various computer programs (Microsoft Office and/or other computer programs).
  • Well-organized, able to work in a fast-paced environment, and a good team player.
  • Culturally competent with excellent cross-cultural communication skills and ability to work with diverse clientele.
  • Experience and knowledge in working with a multidisciplinary treatment team.
  • Detail-oriented, flexible, and self-motivated.
  • Two (2) years of work experience is preferred.
  • Program implementation experience preferred.
  • Must be able to pass a fingerprint clearance, background check, including criminal history, personal references, and employment and education verifications.
