About the position

The Engineer position at Xcel Energy is an entry-level role focused on leading Electrical and Controls projects at gas-fired power generation facilities. The successful candidate will develop technical expertise while collaborating with a team of engineers and technical experts to ensure project success. This role involves supporting project activities, developing technical documentation, and may include supervising interns and technicians under the guidance of higher-level engineers.

Responsibilities

  • Use and apply technical standards, principles, theories, concepts, and techniques to perform activities/assignments of limited scope.
  • Support the development of technical documentation including designs, testing, calculations, and reports.
  • Provide ongoing technical support for project activities within areas such as Operations, Maintenance, and Testing/diagnostics.
  • Coordinate and lead projects or portions of projects under the direction of a higher-level engineer or supervisor.
  • Support bid/evaluation processes by performing basic analysis and calculations on existing documentation and materials.
  • Effectively exchange information on matters of importance and complexity with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Coordinate the work of interns, drafters, technicians, and provide guidance to less experienced engineers.
  • Perform activities such as budgeting, estimating, and work order management in support of engineering projects.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering from an ABET accredited curriculum (or recognized equivalency).
  • 0+ years relevant engineering experience for Engineer level; 2+ years for Staff Engineer; 5+ years for Sr. Engineer; 9+ years for Principal Engineer.
  • EIT/FE (Engineer in Training/Fundamentals of Engineering) preferred for Engineer and Staff Engineer levels; required for Sr. Engineer level; PE (Professional Engineer) registration required for Principal Engineer level.

Nice-to-haves

  • Demonstrated broad knowledge and proficiency in specialty area for Staff Engineer level.
  • Preferred PE (Professional Engineer) registration for Sr. Engineer level.
